Instagram is a storefront now
For many Indian brands, especially in fashion, beauty, food, interiors, fitness, wellness, and D2C, Instagram is where customers first meet them. People discover products through reels, check a brand's grid to decide if it looks trustworthy, read comments for honest opinions, and send DMs to ask about prices and delivery.
That makes Instagram less like a billboard and more like a storefront. And like any storefront, it needs to look good, be easy to navigate, and make buying simple.
Get the basics right
A clear bio. Say what you sell, who it is for, and where you deliver or operate, in one or two lines. Add a clear link to your website, store, or WhatsApp.
A recognisable profile. Use your logo or a clear brand mark that works at a tiny size.
Highlights. Use story highlights as a menu: products, reviews, how to order, FAQs, and behind the scenes.
A consistent grid. Your feed should look like it belongs to one brand, with consistent colours, styles, and tone. Strong brand guidelines make this much easier.
Reels for reach, carousels for trust
Reels are usually the best way to reach new people. Use them to show products in action, transformations, behind the scenes, quick tips, and real customer moments. Hook viewers in the first second, keep them short, and add captions since many people watch without sound.
Carousels tend to work better for saving and sharing. Use them for guides, comparisons, step-by-step tips, and stories. A brand that teaches something useful earns trust and saves.
Stories keep existing followers close: polls, questions, launches, offers, and day-to-day moments. They also make it easy for people to reply and start a conversation.
Post what customers actually care about
Most brand content fails because it is about the brand rather than the customer. Instead of "New collection out now", show how someone styles it, which problem a product solves, or what real customers say. Answer the questions your customers ask in DMs. Show the people behind the brand. Useful, honest, and human content beats polished advertising.
Creators and collaborations
Working with creators can introduce your brand to new audiences quickly. Choose creators whose followers match your customers and whose content feels authentic, rather than chasing the largest follower counts. Smaller creators with engaged, relevant audiences often deliver better results. Instagram's collab posts can also help both accounts reach new people.
Turn followers into customers
Reply to DMs and comments quickly, since many sales start there. Make prices, sizes, and delivery information easy to find. Use Instagram Shopping if it fits your setup. Link clearly to your website or store, and make sure the experience after the click is just as good. Your website should load fast and make buying easy on a phone.
Paid ads, used well
Instagram ads can scale what is already working. Promote posts and reels that are already performing well organically, target carefully, and always send people to a page built for the offer. Our guide on landing page design explains why that matters.
Measure what matters
Followers and likes feel good but do not pay the bills. Track saves, shares, profile visits, website clicks, DMs, and above all sales or enquiries. Review monthly, do more of what works, and stop what does not.
