Taking an 80-Year-Old Mattress Legacy Online

A new identity, a premium e-commerce store, and an order management system for a fourth-generation mattress maker that had spent 80 years selling to hotels and institutions, and had never sold online.

A collage of Boston Mattress work: the website home, collection, and product pages, a product page on mobile, and the Boston Essence catalogue

The Brief

Boston has been making mattresses since 1942. Four generations in, it has sold over a million mattresses and quietly supplies some of the most recognisable five-star hotel chains in the country, along with hospitals, hostels, and large institutions. The craft was never in question: organic natural latex, certified materials, and decades of hands-on expertise.

What it did not have was a presence that matched. Most of its business was B2B and offline, built on long relationships rather than a storefront. There was no unified brand online, no way for a household to discover and buy a Boston mattress directly, and no single place to see how the business was doing across all its channels.

They needed to become a premium consumer brand without losing the trust they had earned with their institutional clients.

Our Approach

We positioned Boston as what it already was: a premium, heritage sleep brand. Everything we made had to feel as considered as the product, calm, warm, and quietly confident, the opposite of the loud discount energy that dominates the mattress category.

The logo. We redrew the wordmark from scratch. "boston" is set in lowercase, in a heavy, rounded geometric face. The rounded letterforms carry the softness of a pillow-top and the comfort the product promises, while the dense, solid weight signals support and durability. Lowercase keeps it approachable rather than corporate, a household name rather than a supplier, and it holds up equally well embroidered on a mattress, printed in a catalogue, or sitting in a browser tab.

The colours. The palette is built from the logo outward. Deep navy, the colour of the wordmark, stands for night, rest, and trust, and it anchors every heading and the site's top bar. Rust is the single accent: warm and earthy, echoing the terracotta of the quilted bed base and the craft behind it, and reserved for every action, from "Shop Sale" to "Contact Us." Warm sand and cream sit underneath everything, the colours of natural latex and linen. Because the logo's colours run through every page, the brand feels like one thing wherever you meet it.

The type. Headings are set in a refined serif that carries heritage and a sense of luxury, paired with a clean, readable sans for everything else.

From there we built the business behind the brand: a store that sells, and the systems that let a long-established company actually run its new channel.

What We Delivered

Everything on the website, from the logo to the last product image, was made by us.

  • Brand identity: a redesigned logo, colour palette, and typography
  • E-commerce website: collections, product pages, offers, no-cost EMI, a 100-night comfort exchange, and a dedicated bulk and B2B quote flow for hotels, builders, and institutions
  • Order management system: a portal that handles every online order and also lets the team record and track their offline sales, so the whole business lives in one place
  • Sales metrics: dashboards that show what is selling, where, and through which channel
  • Lead capture and retargeting: visitors who browse products but do not buy are captured as leads, so they can be followed up and retargeted
  • Content and graphics: product imagery, comparison graphics and infographics, and all the copy across the site
  • Catalogue design: the Boston Essence catalogue and premium print collateral that carry the same identity offline

The Outcome

Boston started receiving orders directly through its website, opening a consumer channel that simply did not exist before. For the first time, online and offline sales sit side by side in one portal, with the numbers to show how each is performing and a pipeline of interested visitors to follow up with.

Boston was already a remarkable business long before we arrived. Eighty years of craft, a million mattresses, and the trust of some of the best hotels in the country do not come from a website. What we added was one more way for people to find them and buy from them, and a brand that finally looks as good as the product feels. We are glad we got to play a part in that.
